A local walk looking for birds on-shore, on the beach and at sea.
After our successful visit to Red Rocks and Hoylake a month ago, this is another chance to take in what the sea has to offer on the tide although the seasons have moved on as have the birds making their great migratory journeys. Our summer visitors have mostly left and the numbers and variety of waders coming south from their Arctic breeding grounds on passage or to overwinter with us is growing. It is a reasonably high tide at 9.7m and at 11.20 for Hilbre. We will meet on Hoylake Promenade (Meols Parade) at the junction with Bennet’s Lane (parking at the side of the road between Bennet’s Lane and Dovepoint Road). Meeting at 09.00.
We plan to walk along the prom as the tide runs in bringing the birds with it until High Water when we will head back to our start point. Depending on the weather and members’ wishes we may then stroll further east towards Leasowe lighthouse searching on our landward side at the vegetation and horse paddocks. Bring your lunch if you want to stay out later.
The walking is mostly level and dry on the prom. There are toilets at the parking venue.
Meet at Meols Parade/Bennet’s Lane 0900.
