Based on an old railway line that was used to transport salt to join the Chester-Manchester line, Whitegate Way has been transformed into a haven for wildlife. A patchwork of shady wooded areas, open fields and freshwater pools contain a nice mix of birds.
Whitegate was the only station on the line and its car park is our starting point. There is a picnic area, cafe and toilets here.
Paths may be muddy after rain, especially off the main Way, but we will try to avoid the worst bits. And hope we get dry weather for a day or two beforehand!

Directions:
Take M53 then A55 to Chester.
At Vicars Cross, take 1st exit on to Tavin Road/A51.
After 2.9 miles, at roundabout, take 2nd exit onto Holme Street/A54.
After 4.3 miles, bear slightly right onto Middlewich Road/A54.
After 3.8 miles, turn left at crossroads onto Clay Lane.
Follow this road for 1.2 miles, then (just before going over a bridge over the old railway line), turn right in to lane down to Station car park.
