Always a popular destination, with varied habitat and birds.
Moore Nature Reserve consists of 200 acres of woodland, meadows, lakes and ponds situated between the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey. It has in the past been used for farmland and also sand quarrying and today is managed by wardens employed by nearby Arpley Landfill which itself is being restored to a mixture of woodland and grassland. The reserve has five large lakes surrounded by extensive woodland, meadows and wetlands made accessible by a network of paths and bird hides. There are plenty of water fowl and woodland birds to be seen. There are no facilities but some shelter in the hides. Paths can (and will!) be muddy. Walking boots or wellies are recommended.
Directions
Take the M53 onto M56 exiting at Junction 11 onto A56 towards Warrington. Keep straight on A56 at Daresbury traffic lights. After 1¼ miles and going over the conspicuous concrete arched canal bridge turn left at the traffic light junction onto Runcorn Road. A mile finds the village of Moore. Look for Moore Lane on the right. Follow Moore Lane until over the ship canal bridge. Meet in the nature reserve parking which is just ahead on the right. If the small car park is full park in the road on the right. 10.00hrs
