Woodland species among the old disused railway.
The Prestatyn-Dyserth Way is 2½ mile route following the path of a disused railway line. It was built initially to serve the mines and quarries in the surrounding hillsides as for centuries, lead, zinc; silver and limestone were mined from the area. For a short period, the railway also carried passengers; with sixteen passenger trains per day using the line at its peak. This ceased in 1930 due to competition from bus services, and after 104 years in use the final freight train left Dyserth Quarry and the line closed in 1973.
We won’t walk the whole distance to Prestatyn and back – we will go so far before returning. The paths are very good and hopefully not icy, but be aware that the path goes downhill slowly, and we have to return back up the incline! Searching for winter woodland birds will be the main focus (Telescopes not especially required).
Meet at the walk-way car park for a 10am departure.

Note that this is a small car park, so if you can car-share that would be great.
If there is no space when you arrive, continue past the car park entrance (or exit car park and turn right) and then turn left in c. 50 yards after large house (slow, it is a sharp turn), continue up road a bit and park where convenient. Walk back to the car park).
Directions
Take A540 to Two Mills, then right onto A550 Welsh Road.
Follow A494 to North Wales/Queensferry and A55 to Conwy for c.17 miles.
Exit A55 at Junction 31 to Prestatyn/Caerwys (MacDonalds on right of A55 carriageway). At roundabout, take 3rd exit onto Prestatyn A5151, crossing over A55. Go straight across at 2nd roundabout to Dyserth A5151.
At next roundabout in 0.8 miles, take 1st exit towards Dyserth A5151, Prestatyn (A547).
After just over 5 miles, as you reach the outskirts of Dyserth, the narrow car park entrance is on your right on a left-hand bend (Go slow – ignore first right turn on bend into a housing estate).
Weather permitting, we will take lunch with us.
Sorry, there are no facilities on this walk. Toilets in Dyserth by Waterfalls on return.
