Cynwyd Forest

Birds of the forest and the River Dee near Corwen.

This will be a circular walk of 4½ miles plus, up through the coniferous Cynwyd forest onto the lower slopes of the Berwyn range of hills.  We will be looking for elusive birds of the pines and more evident birds in the pockets of deciduous trees. Out of the trees Redstarts, Whinchats and raptors would be good to see. The forest route is a rough vehicular road while farther up is a more usual footpath.  There is also a Dee riverside walk as an alternative or additional stroll.

Directions

Take a route through Ruthin (A494) or Llandegla (A5104) towards Corwen.  On arrival at the traffic lights at the A5 turn left towards Corwen.  After ½ mile turn right towards Cynwyd (B4401).  At Cynwyd turn left at The Blue Lion P.H.  Follow this narrow road (single track with passing places) for just over 1 mile. You pass a camping ground sign on the right and also a Welsh Water reservoir sign, again on the right.  Our meeting point is an open piece of ground on the right adjacent to a bungalow. Meeting time 10.00 am.
