Coastal grazing marsh and lagoons. Geese, wildfowl, waders and raptors.
Marshside, north of Southport and as the name suggests close by the start of the Ribble marshes, is a prime site for wintering waterfowl and waders including a great variety of ducks and geese. Convenient car parking and easy walking to two hides, a viewing platform and three viewing screens make for easy viewing. There are no refreshment or toilet facilities here.
We will meet at 10.00 on the car park adjacent to the site.
Depending on time and weather there may be an opportunity later for a visit to Mere Sands Wood.
Directions. From the Wallasey tunnel follow the well sign-posted road A565 towards Southport. After passing Formby and Woodvale airfield, take a left turn onto the Coastal Road. Follow the coastal road along the front at Southport. It becomes Marine Drive. After leaving the town behind and two miles after passing under the pier, look for the car park on the left side of the road. There is a light controlled pedestrian crossing at the location opposite Marshside Road.
