Meet at Marbury Country Park main car park at 10am.
Postcode CW9 6AP. Note that this postcode may take you 100 yards south past the turn-off to Marbury Lane and the car park. Follow the numerous brown signs to the Park.
Parking is £1.50 for 3 hours. £2.50 for All Day. Cash or Credit Card.
There are (free) Toilets! Picnic tables.
Please allow a bit more journey time to account for potential detours. For example, the M56 was closed eastbound between J12 and J11 today (1st October), due to a new bridge installation.
The easiest route normally is taking the M56 (towards Manchester/M6) and exit at J10.
Take 4th exit and follow the A559 Northwich Road. Brown signs for Marbury start here.
Follow this road for c.3 miles, then turn right towards Comberbach. Brown sign. Ignore Road Closed signs. Drive for 1.4 miles through Comberbach. Then turn left onto Marbury Lane and main car park entrance is c. 200 yards on left. (Ignore the limited parking on the lane).
If you reach the Anderson Boat Lift, you’ve gone too far! And the road is closed just beyond here.
If the closure is still in place, you will have to exit at Runcorn, J12. Then drive towards (not into) Frodsham and take A56 (towards Northwich), through Preston Brook and pick up directions to M56 Manchester. Rejoin the M56 at J11 (Preston Brook), continuing east (towards Manchester) to next junction, J10. Then follow directions as above.
A slightly complicated detour, I’m afraid!
Once at Marbury, the Country Park offers a lovely mix of a large mere, loads of woodland and more-open meadows – all within a short distance of the car park. Options after lunch are Hadyn’s Pool and Neumann’s Flash – a little further away.
